What currency are your products shown in?

They are all in Canadian dollars, as we are in Canada. 

How do I pay for an order?

We offer credit card payment through our Shopify secure online payment portal. We accept Visa & Mastercard.  In Canada only, you may also send an Email Money Transfer - simply choose this option during check out and then transfer the total amount directly to us at hello@dotsandloops.ca

How do I use a discount code or gift card?

Unfortunately the system that we use doesn't always make it obvious! Once you are checking out (after the cart), you will see a listing of what you've ordered on the right side of the page. Directly underneath that, there is a box with the text Gift card or discount code in it. Enter your code there. Please note that the system only allows one discount code per order.

What taxes do I pay?

If you're Canadian & shipping to Canada, your sales taxes are automatically calculated based on where you are. If you are elsewhere, you may pay taxes on the declared item values when it crosses the border into your country. We have nothing to do with that part of the process.

Can I order a gift for a friend?

Yes, of course! Here's how:


1. Choose your items. 

2. Choose a friend. 

3. Write the message you'd like us to send along with your gift in the order notes section of the cart (before you checkout). You can also include special instructions there. 

4. Enter your name and address in the billing section of the checkout. 

5. Enter your friend's name and address in the shipping section of the checkout. 

6. Choose the shipping option that applies. 

7. We'll send out your gift! 


Please note, if you are sending to multiple friends, please make a separate order for each friend

Can I order online & pick up in store?

Yes, totally! Just chose the option to pick up at checkout. Once we receive your order, we'll prepare it for pickup and then you'll receive an email letting you know that it's ready to pick up.

I saw something in store or on your social media but I don't see it on your online store.

We try our hardest to get all of our in store stock online for you but it's not always possible. Sometimes it's just that we haven't put it up yet on the online shop and other times the product is just too large for us to ship. Please always feel free to contact us with any questions though.

SHIPPING, DELIVERY & PICKUP

I WANT TO ORDER SOMETHING & PICK IT UP.

We're offering pick up at both of our shops. Just chose the pick up option at checkout, as well as your preferred location and the date you think you'll be in. Once we receive your order, we'll prepare it for you and then send an email to let you know that it's ready. Because we're fulfilling orders from both stores at either store, it may take 24 hours to have your order ready for you at your chosen location, so please wait for the email from us confirming that your order is ready before coming to pick it up.


We are open every day, so please come during our opening times (please see our Contact page for our current hours.) Your order will be available from us at the cash desk. If you'd prefer not to come into the store, please feel free to let us know from the door and we will bring your order to you.

I'M LOCAL (OR MY GIFT RECIPIENT IS) & I'M LOOKING TO HAVE MY ORDER DELIVERED.

We're currently offering no contact $5 delivery on Fridays to Lunenburg & Mahone Bay. 

- Order must total at least $25 to be eligible for delivery.
- Orders will be delivered every Friday (between 10:00 & 5:00).
- Orders must be received by Thursday at 5PM to be included in that Friday's delivery.
- Please leave any special instructions for delivery (where to hide it, etc.) at checkout.
- We can deliver to your workplace or wherever else you'll be on Friday, just make sure to put that address in the shipping address fields.
- We can deliver your items as gifts! Just put the recipients' address in the shipping address fields and let us know of any special instructions.

WHAT ARE YOUR SHIPPING RATES?

CANADA & USA 


PARCEL SHIPPING 

We use a system of rates to allow us to ship more of the bigger, bulkier & more fragile items we carry in store and in some cases, to lower your cost of shipping. We now offer parcel shipping based on weight/size of the parcel, so depending on what is in your cart, you will only see the shipping options available to you. Our parcel system is:


Small Parcel           0.1lb to 4.9lb 

Medium Parcel      5lb to 9.9lb 

Large Parcel          10lb & up 


We do not use the exact weight of products to determine these rates. For example, if you order a small jar of something that is extremely heavy, but you only order that, you would only pay for Small Parcel Shipping. Conversely, if you order a basket, which is very light but very big, you will pay for Large Parcel Shipping.

 

Our shipping rates are also based on distance, with shipping to our province and neighbouring provinces being lower than shipping to British Columbia. 


GREETING CARD SHIPPING 

Along with our parcel shipping, we also offer greeting card shipping. These rates are also based on weight, with each card having a weight of 0.1lb. Our rates to Canada are 


1 card          = $1 

2 - 3 cards   = $2 

4 - 5 cards   = $3 

5+ cards      = Small Parcel 


Rates to the USA are slightly higher. 


WHY DID WE IMPLEMENT THIS SYSTEM? 

We've been shipping out parcels through our shop for over 9 years now, so we know the true cost of it. We are not a big company, so we do not get the heavily discounted rates that large, box stores can procure. We do get a discount on shipping, which is why we're able to offer rates that are cheaper than if you were to purchase the postage yourself but still, nearly every time we ship a parcel to someone, we have lost money. We don't mind losing $0.50 or $1.00 here and there - that's simply the cost of doing business. But the larger amounts we lose are simply not sustainable. It takes money from our shop and keeping money in our shop means that we get to source better and more unique products for you to buy. It means we get to constantly improve. We are not in this business to make money on shipping, so we still keep our prices as low as we can and we don't build in any extra pricing to cover the costs of the materials we use to ship your items. We know it always sucks to pay for something intangible but shipping is a crazily complex thing that definitely does deserve to have a reasonable cost.


This is still something we're working on and improving, so please let us know if you think the shipping rate seems off for what you're ordering and we'll make sure everything looks right.

We continue to offer world wide shipping. We use carrier calculated rates, which are the true cost to ship the package to you.

HOW DO I TRACK MY ORDER?

When you place your order, you will receive an email that includes a link to your Order Status page. You can check there anytime.


Once we ship your order, you will receive another email from us with your tracking information. Click the link in the email to check it anytime. You can always check here too.

MY ORDER IS BEING SHIPPED OUTSIDE OF CANADA? WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW?

Our orders are shipped via Canada Post, which will become your own country's carrier once it crosses your border. 


You may also have to pay duties or taxes from your government at the border. We're not responsible for any of these costs.

CAN I ORDER A GIFT OR A CARD AND HAVE IT SENT TO SOMEONE ELSE?

Yes, of course! Here's how:


1. Choose your gifts and/or card.

RETURNS

What is your return policy?

We don't believe you should spend your money on something that you don't love or something that doesn't work as it should. We have two types of returns: 

 

CHANGED YOUR MIND? 

Maybe you bought it and then once you got it home, you realized the color was wrong or the smell is just the worst or it really just doesn't fit. Whatever is it, we give you 90 days to bring or send back what you bought for a refund or exchange. We only ask that whatever you return is still in good condition, so that we can resell it. We firmly believe you can change your mind but at the same time, we don't want to lose money because of it.


DID IT BREAK? 

Oh no, we're so sorry! It's just a fact of production that some goods made might not last to do the job you bought them for.  Not every item was made as it was intended. If you get an item home and it breaks in the normal course of using it, we will replace or refund it at anytime. This means that if the shirt you bought rips at the seams after you wash it, return it. But this also means that if you buy a doormat and the image wears off after a season or two, it's not returnable. We do not accept returns on items damaged from normal wear or tear or misuse.

How do I do a return?

If you are returning an item in store:


1. Please have your receipt with you (unless you have a customer account in our system, then we can look up your order for you).

2. Please have your item in its original packaging and in good condition, if possible.

3. We offer returns, exchange and store credit.

Where are you located?

Dots & Loops is located in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia – a super beautiful little seaside town, a designated UNESCO heritage site. We're lucky to be among many great shops, restaurants & attractions.


Here Nor There is on Main Street in adorable & super walkable Mahone Bay. It's located just 10 minutes from Lunenburg, so if you're visiting both of our shops, Mahone Bay is before Lunenburg on your drive.

We're open 7 days a week*, all year round. Check our Contact page for our current hours.


*We are closed on the following holidays: Christmas Day, Christmas Eve, Boxing Day, New Year's Day and Heritage Day.

WHY ARE YOU COLLECTING DONATIONS AT CHECKOUT AND WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THAT ORGANIZATION?

Of course, never ever feel obliged to donate to anything. It was added it to our checkout process because  even if only a few people decide that it's a cause they'd like to support, it would be better than not offering the option and collecting no funds.


The organization you'd be donating to is the Centre for ADHD Awareness Canada (CADDAC).


As owner of these two wonderful shops, and a woman who lived with undiagnosed ADHD for 37 years, I well know the pain, frustration, anger and confusion that comes with living with this neurodevelopmental disorder. ADHD is very misunderstood and, as a result, many women never even conisider that it could be something that they have. Many are never diagnosed. The empowerment that comes with a diagnosis is so important and my hope is that through more awareness, we can reach more people who need it.
